Do You Want to DO or LEAD?

Doing is incredibly addictive. You have so much control when you do. You are literally being manipulative when you do.

You manipulate the words on the page, the graphics of the chart, and the wood on the lathe. Doing is magical and marvelous. But doing isn’t leading.

You can kind of pretend it is for a while, except that very often the more you do the less you truly lead. Because leading means letting go of manipulation and control, in exchange for trust and vision.

So the question is this: do you want to do or lead? Both are amazing choices, but only one creates possibility—for others and yourself—far beyond what you can do alone.
